Tuppence Collective: The New Wedding Collection

The design duo share the tales behind their latest luscious prints.

Tuppence Collective: The New Wedding Collection

If you’re familiar with Tuppence Collective, you’ll know that to say the north London-based surface designers are inspired by plants is quite the understatement. Pals and partners in illustration – also known as Alicia Perry and Rebecca Intavarant – live and breathe all things green. Using loose sketching techniques and the lushest array of acrylic paints, the pair bring their signature botanical patterns to a garden of goods, from palm-print planners and diaries to natural-inspired notebooks and notecards.

But which plants did they pick to star in their fresh collection of wedding designs? We asked the illustrators to share the thinking behind each of their latest prints…

Ginkgo
This one was inspired by health remedies and nature. The ginkgo leaf is known for its many healing properties, so we thought it would be nice to paint something more simple, humble and earthly. We especially loved the natural symmetry in the leaves.

Morris
A design inspired by… (you guessed it!) William Morris. How could we create a new batch of wedding invitations without paying homage to our main source of inspiration? It’s a luscious, full design that has a vintage vibe.

Nouveau Border
This design came about when we went on a work trip to Paris last year; we love the Art Nouveau movement and this was our twist inspired by it. We coupled up the elegant, curving stems with pink peonies – a popular choice for weddings!

Baroque
This invitation is made of chrysanthemum leaves. It’s simple, elegant and classic. We wanted to design something that felt timeless and beautiful and thought the best way was to create a design inspired by leaves instead of the flower. Chrysanthemum leaves are really underrated, they create really interesting, organic shapes that are lush and beautiful.
