Part two of the wedding blog's check list and tips for planning the perfect wedding.

What to Do Once You've Sent the Save the Dates with Rock My Wedding

Following their post on What To Do When You First Get Engaged, we asked leading UK wedding blog Rock My Wedding to take us all the way to the big day. So editor Fern Godfrey is back to help you organise the finer details of your wedding once your date has been set and your beautiful save the dates have been sent.

Your Dress (& The Rest)
Hopefully you’ve found ‘the one’ and your dress will soon be in store for alterations and fittings. It’s a good time to start looking for accessories as leaving this until the final weeks before the big day may result in panic buying. Give yourself lots of time to find the perfect shoes and jewellery – don’t feel like you have to chose bridal options either, it’s your day so stick to your style.

The Ceremony
Whether you’re having a religious or civil ceremony, there are boxes that need to be ticked and payments that need to be made. Get this organised, confirmed and paid for early so there are no issues closer to the wedding day. After all, this is the actual getting married part, it is quite important ;)

The Food
If your venue provides food then you’ll be invited to tastings to decide on your final menu. If you’re using a catering company then the same applies, but you’ll have a little more to organise – especially if you’re having a marquee wedding. Talk to both companies to make sure you’ve ticked everything off the list. Either way, make sure you know who is responsible for tables, tableware (including cutlery), waiting staff, bar staff and kitchen porter duties.

Flowers & Decor
Start to think about how you’d like your wedding day to look. If flowers are really important to you, then chose an experienced florist who can bring your ideas to life. Have a shared Pinterest board and make sure you’re clear on what you dislike, as well as what you love. Decor wise, you can source items such as candlesticks, charger plates, etc. yourself from eBay, charity shops and markets – or you can hire a wedding stylist to help. (They will also be able to set up on the day, which can be a godsend).

Stationery
Send out your full invitations around 2 months before the big day. It’s important to include details of where people can stay if they need to book hotels, local taxi numbers, details of your wedding list and an RSVP card (where people can also mention dietary requirements). To keep things cohesive, use the same Papier collection you used for your save the dates. There are so many gorgeous styles to chose from and customising them couldn’t be simpler.

Entertainment
Possibly one of the most fun parts about your wedding day – deciding on the music. Whether you’re having curated playlists on an iPad or booking a variety of acts for different parts of the day, it’s something that requires an evening spent drinking wine while narrowing down favourite songs, crowd pleasers and your first dance choice. If you’re into live music, use it as an excuse to go and see lots of bands or DJs, there’s no better way to get the party started.

Wedding Party
Hopefully you’ve chosen your bridesmaids and they are currently planning you an epic hen do. Now is the time to finalise their dresses and sort out the suits for the boys. Don’t discount hiring suits as there are some great options these days and it can be a good way to save a few pennies. Encourage anyone making a speech to start thinking about what they’d like to say. It’s also a good time to chose and assign readings for your ceremony.
