Pumpkin Decorating Party
There’s something satisfying about getting crafty any night of the week, but especially on Halloween. Request the pleasure of your fellow ghouls for an evening of decorating pumpkins. All you need is carving tools, paints and brushes (painting is the new thing, plus it’s easier for little ones). And, of course, a prize for the jazziest jack-o'-lantern of all.

Film Fright Night
If you’re feeling a night of Netflix and thrill, how about hosting a horror movie marathon? Turn out the lights and crank up the sound to get everyone’s hairs standing on end. You can even put a spooky spin on your cinema snacks, with Halloween-themed popcorn buckets and gory pick ‘n’ mix. Don’t forget the obligatory hide-behind-the-sofa-and-jump-out-at-your-friend move.

Witch Hunt
This is essentially hide-and-shriek in your house or garden, except you’re all dressed up as witches. Pointy hats and broomsticks make the game a whole lot trickier (in every sense of the word), so you may need to count to 100 to allow time to find the perfect hidey spot. All in all, a side-splittingly funny evening for everyone involved. Last to be found wins a cauldron of treats.

Mini Monster Mash
The best way to celebrate Halloween when the majority of your guests are weeny and easily terrified? A mini monster mash. Hail your little one the coolest ghoul in school by inviting all their friends over for dancing, apple bobbing and a game of musical scares chairs. Child-sized monsters tend to be sweet, not scary, so leave the dressing up to the kids to avoid nightmares.

Creepy Crawly Tea Party
You can’t beat an afternoon of tea, and Halloween is no reason to miss out. Gather your favourite people together for a spooky, yet sophisticated, tea party complete with cobwebs on the table, spider-topped sandwiches and cockroach cupcakes. You’ll wonder why you don’t eat faux bugs more often.

House of Horrors
Turn your humble abode into a house of horrors for a soirée with extra shrill-factor. Assign a theme to each room – whether it’s The Twilight Zone or Frankenstein’s laboratory – and let your guests discover tricks and treats whilst your freakiest playlist echoes throughout the house. When the party draws to a close, bid guests goodnight with a weird and wonderful party bag.

Day of the Dead Disco
You don’t get much cooler than a Day of the Dead-inspired disco. Nod to the Mexican holiday by setting a skeletons-only dress code and decorating your space with cardboard skulls and lots of paper flowers. Traditionally, Day of the Dead festivities involve eye-catching papier-mâché decorations – now’s your chance to have a go!

Freaky Quiz Night
How many zombies are dancing in the Thriller music video? Name the three witches in the 1993 film Hocus Pocus? These are just two fun examples of questions you could ask at your big Halloween quiz night. Party essentials include: official question cards (featuring eerie motifs on the back) and scary-sounding buzzers for each team.

Murder Mystery Dinner
With creepy plot twists and the opportunity to dress up, murder mystery dinner parties are perfect for Halloween season. Hit Google to find a fittingly haunting script, then divvy up the characters amongst you and your friends. (We like the sound of Death by Paintbrush). Our advice for solving the crime? It’s the quiet ones you’ve got to watch.

Masquerade Ball
Bring an air of class and tradition to your All Hallow’s Eve with a masquerade ball – the grown-up way to do Halloween. Dating back to the 15th century, the time-honoured event involves music, dancing and, of course, decadent masks. You can insist on full costumes or simply the mask, if you prefer to keep fancy dress to a minimum.
