Writing a gift list before your wedding day allows your loved ones to pick out a truly precious present. At The Wedding Shop, you can build a bespoke gift list (online or in a showroom) with a dedicated team to help with every stage of your gift list journey.
Liza, manager of The Wedding Shop's flagship Townhouse showroom, has helped thousands of couples build their dream gift list. So she was just the person to ask for the best tips on gathering gifts for your special day.
A wedding gift list is a special opportunity to build a list of products and experiences that you both love. Not only will you love creating it, but your guests will be so thankful to see you have one. It takes away the stress of gift-guessing and reassures your guests that they are gifting you something that you will treasure for years to come.
Start with us – your designated Wedding Shop team. From unique advice to personal recommendations, we’ll see you through the whole gift list journey. I would highly recommend visiting us at our flagship London Townhouse in Chelsea, or our showroom in Selfridges. There you can meet us with a glass of bubbly and explore a beautiful selection of gifts in a home setting.
Or book a virtual appointment where you’ll receive the same exceptional service in the comfort of your home. Our website has lots of inspiration pages too, from trend lists to starter collections and even curated collections from our team members.
We recommend setting up your gift list well in advance of your wedding. This gives you the chance to really think about what you’d both like and to build your dream list. If you find you’ve changed your mind about some of the gifts by the time your guests start purchasing things, don’t worry, The Wedding Shop gives you the flexibility to swap gifts too.
It’s a good idea to make sure you have your list set up before you send out your invitations. This allows you to mention your list on your invitations, or include our complimentary notification cards. We recommend you share your list with your guests at least three months before your wedding date.
One of my top tips is to always add more than you think you need. Your guests will want to buy you something that feels meaningful to them as well as you. So try to have a range of different categories and price ranges. That way your list will have something for everyone! Don't be afraid to add gifts in higher price brackets either. Group gifting is a fantastic way to allow multiple guests to contribute towards one item.
When it comes to letting your guests know you have a gift list, sometimes it's hard to know what to say. My advice when writing invitations is to keep them short, sweet, and non-judgemental. Let guests know that a gift isn’t essential, and above all, you’re looking forward to seeing them on your big day. Browse our examples of best gift list wording for more inspiration.
Guests love to give gifts that will create a lifetime of memories. Whether that’s a contribution towards your dream honeymoon, photo books to commemorate your wedding day or homeware gifts that will set you up for your new home together. Classic cast-iron cookware from Le Creuset, natural scents and oils from Neom, to luxurious linen from The White Company. Our couples love to use their gift lists to upgrade their home and lifestyle. When choosing your gifts, take time to think about the key pieces that will turn your house into the home you both dream of. Consider all the seasons to build a gift list that will set you up all year round.
Where to start! There are so many gorgeous gifts at The Townhouse. I love stylish design with a twist of character. Nkuku, Luna Home, and Wicklewood are just some of my favourite brands. If I had to choose one gift I think it would be Veritable’s Smart Indoor Garden. It allows you to grow fresh herbs and greens in your kitchen and has some very sleek features, such as a LED light that simulates natural sunlight. I also really love the rustic and handmade Bimala Lantern from Nkuku. (Take a sneak-peek of my full gift list at The Wedding Shop’s website.)
