What to write in a new baby card

Ahhhhh, they’re here! Isn’t it a miracle when a new baby comes into the world? And when that tiny person is brought into the world by someone you know (a good friend, family member or colleague) it’s especially meaningful. A personalised card filled with celebratory words is most definitely in order, but what’s the perfect message to write inside?

We’ve come up with a range of tips and ideas for all sorts of situations – from baby boys to baby girls, twins to adoption. We’ve also included a mix of fun and thoughtful examples so you can pick your favourite tone.

General tips

Before we cover each scenario, here’s a few handy pointers and suggestions to keep in mind when writing your next new baby card.

• Remember to wish both the baby and the parents well
• If addressing the card to the parents, always address them both (given their both in the baby’s life)
• You can address the whole family if you know them very well, or just the baby for a sweet touch
• Feel free to get a little deep in cards to very close friends or family members, e.g. telling them how proud you are of them
• For people you know less well, tell them how excited you are for them and (if applicable) to meet the baby
• Avoid subjects like the birth, more future children or parenting advice

Simple congratulations

Thoughtful example:
Congratulations on your beautiful bundle of joy – she/he is so gorgeous! I know you two will make the most wonderful parents.

Fun example:
Welcome to the world baby, [name]. Wishing you, mummy and daddy all the health and happiness in the world (and lots of sleep!). So many happy times ahead x

For a baby girl

For a baby boy

For someone in your family

For someone already with children:

For your best friend

For a colleague
