Q&A with Christmas Gift Picker Illustrator Hannah Warren

Meet the elf doodler behind our Gift Picker Quiz.

Q&A with Christmas Gift Picker Illustrator Hannah Warren

We love the way Hannah Warren draws. That's why we've asked her to illustrate a fair few Fold stories with her quirky characters this year. So when it came to bringing life to our Christmas Gift Picker Quiz with a few colourful Papier elves, she was top of our wish list.

We had a quick chat with her to find out her festive loves and where she finds her illustration inspiration.

What drew you to becoming an illustrator?
No surprise really, but I always loved drawing from a young age and being an illustrator there’s a lot of that! I really like responding to the great variety of briefs and the scope and use for illustration is really vast. I also love the immediacy of creating an image that communicates an idea or feeling, it’s like a universal language.

What inspires you?
Being outside looking at things, people mainly, interacting with the world. Bright and bold colours. Travel. The city. The countryside. Bikes. It’s really just about looking and being open to noticing unusual or interesting moments and drawing them. In short, getting out from behind my desk as much as I can.

We love the illustrations you did for the Papier Christmas Gift Picker. What was your favourite part of it to draw?
Definitely the cheeky elves. (First time elf drawer here!)

If you could only draw one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?
People!

Do you wish it could be Christmas every day?
I actually do not! But I do like that song and have been known to eat Christmas pudding in summer.

What's your favourite thing on your Christmas To Do list?
I’m making honeycomb tissue paper pom-pom baubles (no, really I am) for the tree, and getting the tree obvs.

And your least favourite?
Wrapping presents. I’m just really really bad at it. And I hate sellotape.

If Doodles the Elf picked any Papier present to give to you, what would you hope it would be?
I love the gorgeous House of Holland notebooks and as I live my life by lists this would come in handy : )
